Golf is about having fun, and to us, drinking just enough to keep a slight buzz helps us stay loose. We’re not saying go get plastered, but a nice warming buzz keeps the nerves calm and the vibes high! We enjoy a nice cold one on a hot day, but good bourbon is hard to beat on a cool morning or chilly afternoon and may actually be required to “get loose” and into a rhythm.
We enjoy celebrating birdies with a shot of bourbon pretty much any time of the year! We are committed too, if we hear a cheer in the distance that could possibly be a birdie, we drink just to be safe. If we hit a really bad shot, a quick remedy is a good shot of bourbon, but not just any whiskey, we need Colorado Bourbon!
Our First Private Barrel Selection
Last year, The Local Drive, along with our friends at ParHopper, had the privilege of picking the first ever 9 year old single barrel from Old Elk Distillery, appropriately named The Lost 9. We toured the distillery and then sampled whiskey straight from the barrels. After much deliberation and smacking, we had our unanimous pick!
It was a rich and refined tasting 9 year straight barrel proof bourbon from deep in their archive, the very first 9 year old private barrel pick ever released by Old Elk (very few bottles remain)! The barrel was so good that it inspired a collaborative polo, The Lost 9! It is a terrific barrel and one that we cherish still, but it lit a fire in us to explore more Colorado whiskey.
Second Private Barrel Selection
Fast forward to early 2025 and we are set to participate in picking our second single barrel! Again in conjunction with our friends at The Local Drive, but with the distillery that produces “the best damn whiskey in Colorado,” Branch & Barrel Distillery!
Lucky #7 – B&B Private Barrel Pick & Polo
The Local Drive & ParHopper began participating in the tasting of Branch & Barrel’s oldest barrels a few months ago, in preparation to be a part of their oldest release EVER! Very soon, in just weeks now, they will have their oldest release to date, a seven year old bourbon! Once we began tasting different barrels, one barrel in particular stood out to everyone immediately. We had found our barrel! This particular barrel, after 7 years of deep slumber, is a vanilla-caramel bomb with a little oaky butterscotch that we all really enjoyed sipping, even at a barrel proof!
We were feeling really lucky and thankful to be a part of this and began to bounce around the name Lucky #7. It seemed appropriate and rather fitting, so it stuck. We then did the only appropriate thing we could think of, we designed a like-named, three-way collaborative polo to commemorate this release as well! We cannot wait for you to taste (and wear) Lucky #7 for yourself!
Huge Thank You!
We’d like to express our HUGE gratitude to B&B for allowing us to be a part of this release. We are so stoked! It’s the first ever 7 year bourbon from Branch & Barrel and they were kind enough to share this amazing barrel with The Local Drive & ParHopper as a collaborative single barrel release! This will be a truly exquisite bottle of bourbon that only time and patience could have perfected to this degree. No short-cuts, no cheat codes, no mulligans. Just pure Colorado Craft goodness.
